► (n. 1920) Fisiólogo francés del instituto Pasteur. Fue premio Nobel de Medicina y Fisiología en 1965, compartido con A. Lwoff y J. Monod, por sus investigaciones sobre el cáncer.

Biólogo francés. Después de obtener un doctorado, trabajó en el Instituto Pasteur en París. A partir de 1958, colaboró con Jacques Monod en el estudio de la regulación de la síntesis de enzimas bacterianas. Descubrieron los genes reguladores, llamados así porque controlan las actividades de otros genes. Jacob y Monod propusieron también la existencia de un ARN mensajero, una copia parcial del ADN que lleva la información genética a otras partes de la célula. En 1965 compartió con André Lwoff el Premio Nobel.
